My family has been enjoying comforting and healthy recipes using ground turkey instead of ground beef for many years. In fact, if you cook and season your ground turkey the right way, you can hardly tell.
The biggest difference between ground turkey and ground beef is the fat content. Ground turkey is much drier due to being so much leaner. You can always add more fat but I usually don’t need to.
The only thing I don’t do is cook with ground turkey breast. I personally find it too lean and doesn’t seem to crumble like the dark meat does.
The key to getting the best taste and texture is to really get a nice brown on the turkey and season liberally. Adding a little water or stock after browning gives me a softer texture without adding more fat.
